John Walker of The Walker Brothers
John (Maus) Walker arrived on the Hollywood music scene in the late 50s – as rock and roll was just beginning to take the world by storm. In the early days John established himself as a recording artist with companies like Alladin, ARVEE, Dore, Admiral, and A&M’s Elmo label and played studio gigs at Goldstar studios, Sunset Sound and others. John Walker became one of the premiere bandleaders/guitarists and singers in Hollywood: his were the bands to see and be seen with.
John formed “The Walker Brothers” which became the most successful house band in Hollywood, playing six nights a week at the famed Gazzari’s – attracting lines of people winding around the block each night. It seemed that John Walker had done it all by the time he was 21…..then came England, and more.
Prompted by an invitation and curiosity, John and his two Walker “brothers” flew to London in February 1964 to check out the rock scene. Little did they know that within a year, the three good looking Americans would be household names in England, Europe and Asia – charting with hits like “Love Her” and “My Ship Is Comin’ In”, “No Regrets”, and going to number one with “Make It Easy” and “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore”.
World tours, thousands of frenzied and admiring fans, magazine covers and fashion shoots, concerts attended by the royal family, a series of chart topping hits, record sales in excess of 23 million – John and his Walker Brothers were embraced and beloved, and made the UK and Europe their new home. Today, John’s fans – old and new - fill the concert halls to hear him perform Walker Brothers’ classics, his own songs, and songs by his own favourite artists.
